Awesome.

ESQUIRE: You have these very strongly held beliefs, some of them a bit peculiar. Were you troubled by some growing egotism or vanity or something?

CHRISTIAN BALE: No. I primarily felt embarrassment through most of my performances.

ESQUIRE: Because of the quality or the doing?

BALE: I’m not…

In moments of doubt, when your thoughts, feelings, and imagination are silent, remember ‘if.’

It’s an absurd thing to do, being someone else. Wearing someone else’s clothes, saying someone else’s words, it’s ridiculous. It makes no sense whatsoever. Unless it’s wonderful.

If you are anxious you are living in the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present.

Actors Talk About Shakespeare (2009)

rjpesquire:

I’ve started reading this book at the Drama Book Shop, and I cannot put it down. INCREDIBLE book, with soooo many quotables, and nuggets of practicalapplicable golden wisdom about performing Shakespeare. I highly recommend it if you’re at all interested in Shakespeare performance. Includes interviews with Kevin Kline, Zoe Caldwell, Kenneth Brannagh, and more.

I do love acting, but maybe there’ll come a time when I’ll think, I can’t be doing this for the rest of my life. I have to be able to come home and be happy with who I am and my family and all that. I know I need more than just my job. If you want to let your career run your life then fine, but just stay single. If you commit your life to someone else, then you can’t let the job control you.
